Why is American Apparel going bankrupt?

It is said that there is a rule of thumb for selling clothing to our hipster generation; when you feel safe enough to hate a particular style it has unavoidably become fashionable.

Don’t think you’re weird because you don’t get the new trend, most of us don’t understand it either. It is quite easy to copy the Sears catalog and look “stylish”, but it’s another thing to sell unaesthetic clothing at high prices to your insecure niche clientele without risking bankruptcy.

Not long ago American Apparel sold innovative and fresh-styled clothing and was an ambassador in a harsh market but that reputation has since faded. AA finally became a victim of its own success; while stores were multiplying around the globe, the brand wouldn’t relate to a generation in search of uniqueness through clothing.

Clothes are advantageously logo-free and unisex, so to allow the wearer to style a unique look himself, although, no matter how original the outfits, they always keep an American Apparel look.

Amidst all, you have to hand it to them as no single clothing store has ever monopolized a mainstream trend for at least 3 years like AA did.
